Sockets

started 26th March 2020

Making prototype electronics in the late 1970s it was common to put integrated circuits (ics or chips) in sockets. These sockets came as a reel or a strip of metal. You'd cut off a length, say of 7 sockets, put the pins through the board, solder them, and finally snap off the continuous piece of metal above the sockets. I've not seen such things in recent years - the thing that resembles them most closely are the crimp pins and sockets for various connectors, like Du Pont. Let me know if you know the name of these things or a supplier. They were preferable to the ones common now because they had a lower profile.
