If I set the text inset of any frame to 0mm, text will not paste (Ctrl+V) from the global clipboard into the beginning of that frame, whereas setting it to 1mm has no problems. Note that the text must have been placed on the global clipboard by another application- I'm using StrongED. Text copied from elsewhere in the Ovation Pro document does paste without issues. N.B. My Ovation Pro global choices are set to use the global clipboard. I also run the 3rd party utility IcnClipBrd, but killing it makes no difference to the problem. If there are already any characters typed into the frame, the clipboard will paste into it after them, just not when the the frame is empty. This also applies to the master frame, which is the reason why only one of my apparently identical blank A4 stylesheets allowed text to be pasted into it and the other didn't. Since there is also a global choices option for the default text inset of frames, if I set that to 0mm, I cannot paste from the global clipboard into any newly created frame from that point on. Regards Ewen * by way of saving the 2 stylesheets as DDL, using SideDiff to compare and re-sync them until the problem went away, then translating the differences found back into actual settings in Ovation Pro menus. -- Ewen Pring, St. Albans, Herts using Iyonix, RISC OS 5.13, Ovation Pro 2.77 (8 Dec 2007) http://www.timebus.co.uk/riscos/ From davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org Fri Jan 4 12:03:57 2008 Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1JAY7s-01j000-05-AyV.pilling@pop3.demon.co.uk> for ; Fri, 4 Jan 2008 12:03:57 +0000 Return-Path: Received: from punt3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1JAY7s-01j000-05-AyV; Thu, 03 Jan 2008 22:01:20 +0000 Received: from [194.217.242.77] (lhlo=anchor-hub.mail.demon.net) by punt3.mail.demon.net with lmtp id 1JAY7s-01j000-05 for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk; Thu, 03 Jan 2008 22:01:20 +0000 Received: from [206.53.239.180] (helo=turing.freelists.org) by anchor-hub.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1JAY7n-0004Jo-KI for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk; Thu, 03 Jan 2008 22:01:20 +0000 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id DC6907DF476; Thu, 3 Jan 2008 16:59:44 -0500 (EST) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing.freelists.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 32247-10; Thu, 3 Jan 2008 16:59:44 -0500 (EST) Received: from turing (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id 5C75B7DF62D; Thu, 3 Jan 2008 16:59:44 -0500 (EST) Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list davidpilling); Thu, 03 Jan 2008 16:59:05 -0500 (EST) X-Original-To: davidpilling@freelists.org Delivered-To: davidpilling@freelists.org Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id 801F77DF476 for ; Thu, 3 Jan 2008 16:59:05 -0500 (EST) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing.freelists.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 32143-10 for ; Thu, 3 Jan 2008 16:59:05 -0500 (EST) Received: from anchor-post-32.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-32.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.90]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id 2A34F7DF225 for ; Thu, 3 Jan 2008 16:59:04 -0500 (EST) Received: from pilling.demon.co.uk ([62.49.20.172]) by anchor-post-32.mail.demon.net with esmtp (Exim 4.67) id 1JAY5e-000Ic8-6g for davidpilling@freelists.org; Thu, 03 Jan 2008 21:59:02 +0000 Message-ID: Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2008 21:49:26 +0000 To: davidpilling@freelists.org From: David Pilling Subject: [softwarelist] Re: Pasting from global clipboard problem (RO) References: <995bb9194f.ewen@iyonix.timebus.co.uk> In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=us-ascii;format=flowed User-Agent: Turnpike/6.02-S () X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at localhost.localdomain X-archive-position: 397 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org Errors-to: davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org X-original-sender: flist@pilling.demon.co.uk Precedence: normal Reply-to: davidpilling@freelists.org List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Ecartis version 1.0.0 List-Id: davidpilling X-List-ID: davidpilling List-subscribe: List-owner: List-post: List-archive: X-list: davidpilling X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at localhost.localdomain X-CNFS-Analysis: v=1.0 c=1 a=6uSRrY-08V4A:15 a=tom4yg3c-WkA:10 a=pMdtZHg6hnHVLmAUEJaFkA==:17 a=dqhQn4rJAAAA:8 a=mTfSlyUO0NRUV0Nm59gA:9 a=DKnUVaodEuBhjs4c-fMA:7 a=j-4MglheDDLjMQedHTByvnCSHeEA:4 a=5WZzfXpOq_gA:10 X-Antivirus: AVG for E-mail 7.5.516 [269.17.13/1208] In message , Ewen Pring writes >In message <995bb9194f.ewen@iyonix.timebus.co.uk> sent on 29 Aug > Ewen Pring wrote: >> I've a number of documents/templates that have been around for years, >> and which exhibit problems with pasting text from the global (but not >I've found* the cause of this problem. >If I set the text inset of any frame to 0mm, text will not paste Global paste works like draging and dropping a file, OP actually generates a point and then pretends that you dropped a file at that point. I think I may have got another bug reproduced, and it also appears to be related to text inset. For some time I have been annoyed by what have seemed like random flecks displayed around text in some documents, cured by redrawing the window. However, I believe they are not shown if the text inset is set to 10mm. I am replicating this as follows, using latest version 2.77g: - Create standard new document by select click on icon bar icon [master frame text inset doesn't matter] [document zoom is 100%] [text is font Trinity, 12pt] - Draw a new text frame on screen with text inset set to 1mm - Type or paste the alphabet into both the master frame and the new frame - Insert cursor before both alphabets and either press Enter a couple of times, or press space bar to shift it to the right - The text in the new frame leaves horizontal marks above or below some letters such as y and g, that in the master frame does not. - Altering text inset of new frame to 10mm cures it Incidentally, this problem happens with Iyonix lazy task swapping either enabled or disabled using Paul Vigay's Misc config plugin. If the document zoom is not at 100%, the problem is seen less or not at all. Other fonts make the problem more or less apparent. Changing the desktop resolution makes no difference. I also find that selecting any text and applying the reverse-out colours button to it, then going back to normal, invariably leaves a horizontal line above that text, which can only be got rid of by redrawing the window. However, this does not seem to be affected by text inset of the frame or anything else. My apologies to David for finding this bug after he had kindly produced the fix for the other issue yesterday! These are the well known and dreaded "redraw errors". They are inexcusable. Alas they're not simple bugs, it is not a case of fixing things for a 10mm inset rather getting things right for any inset, any font size, any design of font. You'll find that using a particular font at a certain size will be very messy whilst slightly different settings will be fine. When I was writing OP I cut things a bit fine because it had speed advantages. Given the complexity of the redraws it is unlikely I will return to it. The same thing happens on the Windows version, where it is even less excusable, Windows does provide the facilities to improve matters. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. If I do, with CrossStar 2.12 on RISC OS 5.13: 1) Open a grid, and type across it, say, [blank][blank][blank][blank][blank]then three letters 2) Highlight these eight squares and click on "Solve": I get a list of solutions which starts appropriately, and then further down the list (usually from about words starting with "l") words which increasingly have no relation to the letters in the grid, either in number or in relevance to the three letters I have typed. The real oddity is that if I do exactly the same in VRPC running 4.02 (David, I hope it's OK to have it on both machines!), same version and same dictionaries, it all comes out quite correctly. The only thing I can think of is that in 5.13 the dictionaries are shared with Messenger Pro as well as OPro, and Messenger is always running; Messenger isn't on the VRPC setup at all, but OPro is. Done that and it works. And I was even able to save out all the words I had added to the (presumably corrupt) dictionary, load them into OPro and spell-check them back into the uncorrupted dictionary. And in case it does not, what good-quality >film scanners are supported on RISC OS 5. I think the answer is no. RISC OS 5 does not have a parallel port, and the Plustek drivers are parallel only. The Plustek drivers are very low level, they talk to a specific scanner chip and control every action of the scanner. That means it is unlikely the drivers would work with a different scanner. As far as my drivers go, your choice for scanning film is a flat bed Epson. Modern flat beds do a reasonable job on 35mm images. Not as good as dedicated film scanners. I did do a 32 bit version of the Nikon Coolscan 3 driver, but you bump into the lack of SCSI cards. I'm not familiar with the Plustek film scanner. I suspect that some low cost film scanners will not be much good. I've not seen it, I can't say. It always interested me how much better the Nikon mark 3 was than the Nikon mark 1. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Could you send me an example by private email? A type 2 error is a divide by zero, what often happens is that programs set image resolutions (dpi) to zero, they do this in the belief it stands for "default". It means no such thing, but then again I should trap any divide by zero errors anyway. That is one possibility. ISTR there are some memory issues with DPScan and PNG files, all you can do is increase the wimp slot set in the !Run file. Presumably you could use the files with another program e.g. ChangeFSI etc. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Thanks for the example files. Those PNG files have a bad value for resolution - rather than the usual trick of being zero, they have a fantastically high resolution, according to Windows viewer it is: 16899208 dpi in both X and Y directions. DPScan gets a similar value, but when it works out how big an image that converts to on screen (0 pixels) it crashes. PhotoShop Elements tells me the resolution is 72dpi, which sounds to me like it knows they're dud values and has substituted the Mac default value. Perhaps someone should tell Google, although by now I expect we have a new standard. I have one of the same books from which the pages were scanned in front of me. It is from the John Rylands University of Manchester library. Published by the Chetham Society in 1860, it is limited in its appeal to historians and genealogists. As the libraries from which the dodgy images were scanned are in the USA (Harvard and California) and as the Google blurb says that they are scanning books, I see no reason for any intermediate imaging. DPScan works fine with images from books in the Bodlean Library Oxford. > > I think they're dud values... > They most certainly are.
