Fix bug in main program to do with positioning of embeded lines in text Made main document window Unicode, this allows direct entry of Unicode text e.g. using the Greek keyboard. Embeded User Access Control (UAC) manifest in installer, this should prevent installation going wrong on Vista if the installer is renamed. On Vista one does not get administrator rights as easily as on previous versions of Windows. This matters when you are installing programs when typically the installer will want to write protected resources e.g. the registry. Things will go wrong if you run an installer as a mere user. To stop things going wrong with installation you have a number of options. (1) right click the installer and use the run as administrator menu option. (2) ensure the installer has the "correct" name - files with "Install" or "Setup" in their names are treated specially by Windows Vista. (3) use installers which have a UAC (User Access Control) manifest embedded. I am updating all my installers to include manifests. This will take some time. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Box 22 Thornton Cleveleys Blackpool. Convert the frame to elliptical shape (circular in my case, for a CD label). All appears well, so .... Print with a dot-matrix driver (I used Uniprint, either to paper via a PC or to a sprite directly). The colours are not quite what was intended! No problem with a Postscript printer driver. No problem with a deep sprite in the Artworks file. No problem with a rectangular Ovation Pro frame. Can anyone else reproduce this? If so, is it a problem with Ovation Pro 2.77, Artworks 2.63 or AWRender 2.05? I got round the problem of course by exporting from Artworks as a sprite, and importing the sprite into Ovation, so I don't need an urgent reply! Yes. The full story is that the current version of AWRender cannot print indexed colour sprites (256 colours or less) while output is redirected to a sprite during printing. In order to print an irregular frame to a non-PostScript printer, OvationPro redirects output to a sprite internally, so this explains all of your findings above. Mind you, the current version of AWRender does not really do a good job of printing indexed colour sprites anyway, so even in cases where it appears to work it prints them with degraded quality. AWRender still has the old ArtWorks 1.7 sprite printing code, which is pretty poor and which was used by ArtWorks until version 2.3. I have updated it significantly for ArtWorks 2.4, but this new code has not found its way into AWRender yet. I think the above problem will go away when I have ported that code across. > If so, is it a problem with Ovation Pro 2.77, Artworks 2.63 or > AWRender 2.05? It really is a limitation in AWRender. This is mentioned somewhere in the > documentation. I do not think this can help during printing because the printer driver will do its best to lead all software to believe that the current screen mode is whatever the driver defines it to be. But the suggestion to change screen modes rings a bell: There is the annoying "Nothing to flow around" error when trying to flow around an ArtWorks illustration. The suggestion workaround is to switch to a 16 colour mode. I think it is very odd that OvationPro can only flow text around an ArtWorks illustration in a 16-colour mode. On an Iyonix, that means that you simply cannot do it. Something cannot be right there. I am not aware of any special behaviour of AWRender in a 16 colour mode. If at all I would expect problems to be more likely in a 16 colour mode than in a 256 colour mode. Though ArtWorks and AWRender render happily to 16 colour modes, that kind of operation has never been the preferred colour depth anyway (and some versions of ArtWorks actually had problems rendering to 16 colour modes). I suppose the flowaround code redirects output to a sprite? If so, at which colour depth? Yes, except that the one bit depth that would be interesting here (1bpp) does not seem to be available for proxies. ;-) Looking at the others I see that with the current screen mode being a true colour mode proxy generation goes wrong for all indexed colour depths - the colours are wrong (e.g., try a single object with a graduated fill). This is not surprising, I do not think it can be done with the current AWRender. I think your code does that right thing, so maybe one day, this will be fixed in AWRender and then it will just work. The "Nothing to flow around" error seems to indicate that nothing is rendered at all in a 1bpp mode. That could be cured in a different way: ArtWorks actually has a special internal rendering mode that is optimized for rendering to a 1bpp sprite irrespective of the current screen mode. In ArtWorks, that is used for click detection. Most of that code is in AWRender, too, but there are a few bits missing. I suppose a new version of AWRender could support that rendering mode and then you would only have to pass a different output destination value and things would work. There isn't an automatic page total, in the same way that there is an automatic page number. ISTR that someone has set up the macros/field necessary to let "page N of X" be generated by using mail merge to do the printing. So you have a mail merge tag instead of the total number of pages and then use mail merge to print. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. That is now possible i.e. it came in with allowing the use of Unicode keyboards. I spent a few happy hours playing with this - translation it wouldn't work at first due to things outside OP. I've updated the Unicode document on the OP CD, so that it reflects the current state of play. What I am getting around to is that you need to change a registry setting before you can use Alt etc. Here is what I say in the document: ======================================================== Typing the code number. (Press and hold ALT then press and release + on the keypad, then type the hex Unicode then release ALT. The code need not be typed on the keypad, if the keypad is used it should be in Num Lock mode - Ovation Pro uses ALT with the arrow keys to move frames and the arrow keys are duplicated on the keypad. For this method to work the registry string value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\ Input Method\EnableHexNumpad needs to be set to the string 1 i.e. a single digit one). ======================================================== I would guess that all possible methods of entering Unicode now work. However I have not tested them all. Somewhere out on the web a Microsoft employee says "Oh just install the Asian languages pack and you'll get a handy on screen doodat that lets you enter any code". Well I did that, it uses about 5GB of disc space and I struggled to get it off the screen. It would be fun to turn OP into a true Unicode app. e.g. allowing Unicode file names. However I think the priorities lie elsewhere. There are some snags like people aren't going to edit script files in Unicode mode. I'd imagine the next complaint will be that you can't type Unicode into the find/replace icons. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. I also have the "Save Undo Buffer" option ticked in the Application Choices with an undo buffer size of 128k. I think that Ovation Pro for Windows must be ignoring the undo buffer size, or perhaps just counting non-graphic data in the undo buffer. =46or example, my document size just went from 171 MB to 91 MB after I had first added another graphic and then created a table of contents (which involved just text editing). The largest graphic in my document is a 9MB .bmp and the total of all the graphics is about 100 MB on disk. Some of them were added quite a lot time ago (in editing terms). I can understand Ovation keeping >extra data in the undo buffer when I have been working with large >graphics, but why does it keep so many of them? This is a question that has been asked since the start. OP puts references into the undo buffer. That means that a picture however large only takes up a modest space in the undo buffer - not quite four bytes but little more. That's just how it works. I used to think this was a bad thing, today I'm not so sure, do you really want to push the undo buffer up to 20MB to retain the last picture and then end up saving a years worth of text edits? Click on Min Memory (RISC OS) or Clear undo buffer (Windows) to get rid of things. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Check that your Speak module is 32bit. More likely is the variable Speak$Dir hasn't been set. If you were loading Speak from the Pluto !Run file but you aren't currently running Pluto that would explain the error because the module location hasn't been set. The machine, then hangs. > What am I doing wrong, please? There could be any number of reasons why it's not printing. Firstly, you don't state which machine hangs. Is it the computer or the printer? Are you sure it actually hangs, or could it be that it is just taking a *very* long time to complete its job. How do you recover from this hang - by pressing Escape, Alt Break, or a full reset? (I'm guessing you are using the RISC OS version and not Windows) There are so many things that could be the problem, that it is difficult to say what is causing the problem. Some suggestions that may be worth looking into: Large bitmap images or large vector objects causing problems for the printer - try printing with the No pictures option selected. Corruption of the document - save as DDL to see if that helps. Problems with memory corruption - reboot the machine and try again but only load OPro and no other unnecessary applications. (load OPro before anything else) Increase the Print memory in OPro's choices. Try printing to a different printer (using a different printer def), such as PostScript or SPrinter and seeing if it completes the printing. It can still be the printer "blocking" e.g. suppose it is out of paper then the computer will sit there waiting for the printer to say it is OK to send more data. You can configure RISC OS printing to take place in the background which stops this effect. Requires both the printer driver and Ovation Pro to be set correctly. See printer choices in Ovation Pro and the relevant section in the OP manual. >> Try printing to a different printer (using a different printer def), >> such as PostScript or SPrinter and seeing if it completes the printing. >Hey I only have one printer! You can install as many printer drivers as you like. SPrinter, is free from my web site and produces Sprites (so no associated hardware), and it is often useful to have a PostScript driver installed and set up to print to file. For example if you'd not got the thing to print, another suggestion would have been to print the document to a PostScript file and then try loading the file into GhostScript. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O.
