See: www.davidpilling.info/cd I'd not recommend that you rush to upgrade, and if you're doing serious colour work or a lot is at stake, don't upgrade at all. Now for the long story. The last version of OPW came out at the end of March. After seeing that it was stable I started work on adding better support for ICC colour profiles. I knew that this meant the working version would be unusable for a couple of weeks. What happened then is that I had problems outside the world of computers. So a couple of weeks became about five months. I've still not added the new ICC colour features, what I've done is grey out the new settings in the dialogues and put in some code which passes on colours without changing them where the ICC profile code will go. However I can't promise that colour handling, separations etc. will work correctly. On top of this, Windows XP decided to randomly mess up the contents of my hard disc. So I've had check that the 100's of files on the CD are correct. Part of that has been recreating everything that is dependent on other files - in other words every exe, pdf, zip, dll file. One file XP did delete was my email. Which meant I lost a month or so of this mail list. Gavin Crawford has kindly supplied me with a copy. So the CD has been rebuilt, and the mail list archives are now up to date. More importantly the version of OPW on the site now times out in November (rather than June). The only new thing is that OPW and DPScan can now acquire images using the WIA protocol - MicroSoft's (inferior) version of TWAIN. Cameras tend to have WIA drivers and not TWAIN. A few bugs have been fixed in OPW. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Box 22 Thornton Cleveleys Blackpool. Misc->Edit Colours Select black Click on Edit Click on CMYK Click on OK Click on OK ISTR that the original versions of OP, before the colour supplement defaulted to defining Black in the RGB model. Traditionally this is only a potential problem if you are going to print separations. However if you're using OPW with direct PostScript enabled the colour model will actually reach the PostScript output. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. I think, in the View menu, you can switch off display of images (replaced by a cross). Then when you scroll down you can select and delete the image, or whatever. OP makes no attempt to render image so no error occurs. Solved it, I think ... Simply deleted the following from the DDL file: PICTURE_9c5b={picture {reference "C:\\Documents and Settings\\cbonsall\\My Documents\\OPWdocs\\IGconference\\GreenHV\\Fig01(hv).tif"} ... then re-saved the DDL. That seems to have had the effect of hiding the picture, so that I could then delete it (Ctrl-K) and drag the original file back into the frame. Now I have a usable document once more. But I still have no idea what is wrong with the two lines above. The path and file name are correct, as far as I can see. -- C.B. PICTURE_7f6={picture {reference "C:\\Documents and Settings\\cbonsall\\My Documents\\OPWdocs\\IGconference\\GreenfieldHV\\Figures\\Fig01(hv).tif"} For what it's worth, in the meantime I moved the TIFF file into a sub-directory, "Figures". Although there appears to be no problem with the TIFF file, i.e. as far as Photoshop is concerned -- ISTR that the picture was created in Adobe Illustrator, then exported as TIFF with LZW compression. I think this is the only picture I have imported into an OPW document, which was first exported from Illustrator in compressed format. I usually do the compression in Photoshop, not Illustrator. Perhaps that's the cause of the problem ... something about the compression that OPW doesn't like. I'll try experimenting further. -- C.B. The backup seems to work OK, but I'm a bit puzzled by the use of the -quit parameter. The documentation suggests that using this will cause SyncDiscs to exit quietly when the job is done, but I'm finding that it just opens its window instead. Without -quit, the window opens at the start of the process, so there seems to be some effect. I was hoping that with -quit included, the backup would happen totally silently, so that it could be automated. It would be good to know more - RISC OS or Windows, how the PDF is being created. But the first thought is horrors of RISC OS PostScript printer drivers, which would come down to is the watermark image different to the other images - for example it has a transparency mask and the others don't. Put it another way the reason the watermark image is rendered differently is because it is a different type of image. I wonder if anyone has ever written up all the snags and catches with PostScript on RISC OS? I've used SynDiscs from a bat file for a long time, but I've never had the above problem. I wonder what the catch is. Someone pointed out last week that SyncDiscs for RISC OS does not work properly via LanMan, DOSFS etc. The problem is that it assumes files are listed in alpha order, and on PCs they're not. Version 1.10 should pop up on my web site any moment - allowing you to back up to Windows - perhaps. I keep adding stuff to SyncDiscs for Win as I find things I need, I really will have to release a new version... -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Oops, sorry. I seem to have solved it by converting the graphic to a different format. Originally I used: OvationPro version 2.76 !PrintPDF version 0.32 Graphic in TIFF format but since my original post I applied the patch to OvationPro so it is now version 2.77 and tried the graphic as a sprite. This time it has worked. Is it likely to be the TIFF format which caused the problem? Computer is Iyonix OS 5.09 -- Tricia Love may be blind but marriage is a real eye-opener. One pitfall to watch out for is that if the PostScript driver (in !Printers) is shared, the remote copies of it (here at least) revert to colour being switched off, and this needs to be switched back on whenever the local machine is re-started. It holds the setting over a quit and reload of !Printers, but the setting cannot be saved permanently, I have found. -- John Ward in Medway, Kent - using RISC OS since 1987 Now using an Iyonix, an A9home, 2 RiscPCs and Virtual-RPC! TIFF graphics do not exist in Ovation Pro documents, when you load a TIFF it is converted to a Sprite inside a Draw file. The question then is what does the conversion. There are three possibilities TransTIFF - Computer Concepts, comes with Impression etc. Doesn't work on the Iyonix. TransFSI - comes with Ovation Pro, relies on ChangeFSI and what comes out depends on how things are configured. Not really good for TIFFs, because it can't handle CMYK images. TranTIFF+ - available from my web site and the best option. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O.
