I find with my non-networked model that the Calligraph will not print JPEGs from an OPro document, but is quite happy if they are converted to Sprites first. I have also found that text in rotated Draw files won't print. On the other hand, I did a rather complex page with lots of overlapping irregular frames and found that the Calligraph coped fine but !Printers 1.53 wouldn't, so at least there is a positive side. I do rather get the feeling that Calligraph have given up now, though, and we may never see them catching up with some of the more recent developments. Sad, because the driver has some features (e.g., offset) which I haven't found elsewhere, and I do like the minuscule margins. So if it crashes whilst loading, another copy of the program gets run. The scary one (don't try this at home kids) is to set off printing a file and then close all the windows on it whilst the printing is still going on. Other times the TransBMP loader will throw up an error 'CF08'. Well these loaders have always been a bit weak at sifting one sort of file from another. The catch with the new DDF filter is that I left it set up to examine all text files. That has always been an option, you un bar comment two lines, one in !Run and one in !Boot - have a look at an old copy. (then reset the machine). By looking at all text files you gain the benefit of not having to settype Impression DDF files before you import them. I agree that the documentation needs updating there are errors and omissions in the manual and the documentation is spread out over several documents. It is one of the project goals to do a new manual, but currently it remains just that - a goal. It is unlikely that a full manual would ever be placed on the WWW site. You need to let the new program see the new resources by double-clicking on !OvnResDir inside the !OvnPro application (or you haven't copied the new resources across). I'd be interested to know if this works since I haven't tested the upgrade with the site licence version. My initial feelings were that it wouldn't work, but on reviewing the patching procedure I think it may work. -- Ian MacDougall Beebug Ltd To unsubscribe send a message to: maillist@risc.demon.co.uk with the Subject: SIGNOFF ovationp-l To subscribe the Subject line should be: SIGNON ovationp-l From maillist@risc.demon.co.uk Tue Jan 6 13:42:30 1998 Received: from relay-5.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA54172 for opro ; Tue, 06 Jan 98 13:42:25 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 884078463:06:05888:75; Tue, 06 Jan 98 09:21:03 GMT Received: from post-20.mail.demon.net ([194.217.242.27]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa0605515; 6 Jan 98 9:19 GMT Received: from risc.demon.co.uk ([158.152.18.44]) by post.mail.demon.net id ah2017710; 6 Jan 98 9:18 GMT From: Roger King Sender: imac@risc.demon.co.uk Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 08:53:16 +0000 Organization: Subject: Re: ClipBoard To: Subscribers to the mailing-list OVATIONP-L Reply-To: ovationp-l@risc.demon.co.uk Message-ID: <19980106.085316.16@risc.demon.co.uk> Precedence: bulk X-Posting-Date: Mon, 05 Jan 1998 13:09:37 +0000 (GMT) X-MailList: MailList v0.16 the mailing-list robot for RiscOS X-Apparently-From: X-Posting-Agent: RISC OS Newsbase 0.59c On 05 Jan, D.A.Symes wrote: > Why not save a load of rigmarol, just mark the Publisher text, click > adjust (RH mouse button) on the button bar floppy icon, then drag the > resulting Text Save icon into an Ov Pro document window? You can of course use the above method to import Publisher text into an OvPro document. I still say that the use of StrongED as an intermediary device offers better facilities than that offered by dragging Publisher text with the RH mouse button depressed into Ovation Pro. The advantages that StrongED offers are: The ability to strip redundant spaces or tabs before a Publisher text line. The ability to strip redundant spaces or tabs after a Publisher text line. The ease of converting some Publisher text to upper or lower case. Simply mark the required text in a StrongED window and issue the command for upper case or for lower case. If you own Publisher+, you can convert a marked block to all upper case, all lower case, capitalise start of sentences, capitalise initial letters before copying the file to the clipboard. If you own Publisher then it will be necessary to alter the case of each required letter when the text is pasted into Ovation Pro using D.A. Symes method of importing Publisher data. The final advantage that StrongED offers is the unique marking of ANY area of text within a StrongED window. This is very useful with tabular data that has been copied into StrongED from a Publisher document. All you have to do to mark tabular data is to place StrongED's cursor at the start of the data and press one of the buttons and drag the mouse until the required block of data is marked. To my certain knowledge, this is the only text processor to achieve this task. The marked block can then be dragged straight into an Ovation Pro document. I have added a comprehensive tool bar to version 4.50 of StrongED, the latest version of the software available, that offers many facilities to the application. If any Ovation Pro user would like a copy then please get in touch with me. Guttorm Vik, the author of StrongED, requires a UKP 10 registration fee; well worth it in my opinion. -- __ __ __ __ __ ___ _____________________________________________ |__||__)/ __/ \|\ ||_ | / | || \\__/\__/| \||__ | /..Internet provider for all Acorn RISC machines ___________________________/ rmking@argonet.co.uk To unsubscribe send a message to: maillist@risc.demon.co.uk with the Subject: SIGNOFF ovationp-l To subscribe the Subject line should be: SIGNON ovationp-l From maillist@risc.demon.co.uk Tue Jan 6 13:42:36 1998 Received: from relay-5.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA54174 for opro ; Tue, 06 Jan 98 13:42:34 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 884078591:06:06630:75; Tue, 06 Jan 98 09:23:11 GMT Received: from post-20.mail.demon.net ([194.217.242.27]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa0605680; 6 Jan 98 9:21 GMT Received: from risc.demon.co.uk ([158.152.18.44]) by post.mail.demon.net id ai2017710; 6 Jan 98 9:18 GMT From: Ray Dawson Sender: imac@risc.demon.co.uk Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 08:53:57 +0000 Organization: Subject: Re: Various To: Subscribers to the mailing-list OVATIONP-L Reply-To: ovationp-l@risc.demon.co.uk Message-ID: <19980106.085357.39@risc.demon.co.uk> Precedence: bulk X-Posting-Date: Mon, 05 Jan 1998 15:55:59 +0000 (GMT) X-MailList: MailList v0.16 the mailing-list robot for RiscOS X-Apparently-From: X-Posting-Agent: RISC OS Newsbase 0.59c On 05 Jan, David Pilling wrote: > >I seem to have discovered a problem with 2.48 which I think is > >down to the new TransDDF filter. Ok, I got rid of the IMS graphics loaders, but kept the !Run and !Boot set up to look for all text files - as I had had 2.46 doing before upgrading to 2.48 and the new !TransDDF. No problems dragging text in until today when I dragged a few selected lines from Zap and found that as well as the text, OP had a Merge tag added to the bottom of the page and some top bit set characters. I selected them and tried to delete them but OP bombed out with a type=5 error. I reloaded the OP and the file and did it again Ok, but it does seem that there is something flaky in the text import. Could it be in the Convert file inside !TransDDF? Since upgrading to v2.48 (which by the way went without any problems) if have noted two minor problems. 1. If trying to convert the 'f' of a ligature (fi in this case) to capital 'F' using nothing happens! Could this be fixed? 2. When starting to print the 'page' field on the printing window starts with '12/34' before (after a second perhaps) changing to the correct page, normally '1'. There seems to be no problem with the printing but it does cause some alarm! I think the second printing of the same document in the same session is OK. Thanks to David for improvements in this version - the transfer of properties (spellcheck options, etc) from the default document / stylesheet more than solves a problem with using DDL files as document templates which I mentioned some time ago.
